在柯林斯詞典的10個年度詞匯候選名單中，NFT擊敗了另外兩個科技類詞匯：Crypto，即加密貨幣的簡稱，根據柯林斯的數據，其使用率同比增長了468%；metaverse，這是尼爾·斯蒂芬森在其1992年小說《雪崩》中創造的一個術語。描述一個三維的虛擬世界--比如馬克·扎克伯格的Facebook公司改名后叫Meta--Metaverse的使用率自2020年以來增長了12倍。
